The line-up

  1. 1

    Helson Shark Diver 42 mm

    8/10 · For the beeeech

Mr Peter Helson, the beefcake watch, on the OSD's rubber strap: the bezel is nice and it looks pretty nice, look at those crown guards.

  2. 2

FKM Tropic-style rubber straps (UK Straps, eBay)

    9/10 · Beyond thunderdome

eBay specials from UK Straps for 12 pounds 70 or something, and they are excellent, all quick release, though the spring bars are a bit short and getting replaced.

  3. 3

    Casio Duro / Marlin MDV106

8/10 · For the beeeech · Gethin's own (a gift from Mr Jun)

The only quartz in my collection: an awful strap when Mr Jun gave it to me, but the blue Tropic brings it alive, and the bezel's not that great but for a 50 quid watch it's acceptable.

  4. 4

Orient Saturation Diver Professional 300m (OSD)

    9/10 · Beyond thunderdome · Gethin's own

Old Faithful, the behemoth: the bezel is stuck unless you warm it up and it's off to Poland in September for a service, but it's a great watch and will never leave the collection.

  5. 5

    Doxa Sub 300T Professional

    8/10 · For the beeeech

Lovely clicky bezel, beautiful original case, very comfortable and accurate, crap lume, and an absolute classic: not for everybody, but I appreciate its design and capabilities.

  6. 6

    Seiko SPB317 'Slim Turtle'

8/10 · For the beeeech · Mr Jun

Very nice factory rubber and lovely keeper, so slim, beautiful and extremely comfortable: I wore it all day at Chessington and didn't even know it was there.

  7. 7

    Seiko SLA023 Marinemaster 300

    9/10 · Beyond thunderdome · Gethin's own

My grail, wanted for about 10 years: the best bezel I've felt, thick at about 15.4 but if you can wear an SKX you can pull it off, and I'll keep it forever and hand it down.

  8. 8

    Seiko SPB143 62MAS Modern Re-interpretation

    9/10 · Beyond thunderdome

A clicky, quite un-Seiko-y bezel, an unsigned crown I like, box dome distortions and lovely bevelling: almost a perfect watch, and a charmer on the black Tropic rather than its not-the-best bracelet.

  9. 9

    Seiko SRP773 Turtle

    7/10 · For the beeeech · Gethin's own

One of my first watches, December 2015, on a case-fitted Crafter Blue at about 60 quid: the bezel is quite poor and it runs about minus 35 seconds a day, but I still like him, a great watch.

  10. 10

    Seiko SKX007

    9/10 · Beyond thunderdome · Gethin's own

Look at the state of it: scratches everywhere, bezel spun round 50 billion times, 200 pounds when I bought it, and I'd like to say it's my favourite watch.

In his words

"That's a great watch. Will never leave the collection."
