Four Doxas, one Marinemaster and two gifts I'll never sell: G's whole collection, April 2025

G is bored, so here's the full collection. This is all I have now: seven twerps. Four Doxas, my beloved Marinemaster 300, and two dress watches I'd never wear by choice but will never get rid of, because they were gifts.

Everything was on rubber until just now. The rubber was starting to annoy me, so they're all back on their bracelets. Daylight, wrist shots on the twerpedo, bezel rolls. And there's one more on the way from Russia.

The verdict

Seven twerps and that's it: the Doxa Sub 600T is the favourite right now, the Marinemaster 300 is still the first great watch with the best handset going, and the Sub 200 keeps the best time. The two dress watches stay forever because they were gifts. And there's a mystery twerp coming from Mr David in Russia.

My favourite at the moment: not a very popular watch, but I absolutely love it, with that flashy bracelet and an old-school clasp that's a bit of a disgrace but faithful.

Doxa Sub 1500T Searambler

The behemoth of the bunch, 45mm and extremely thick, with a misaligned bezel that's highly disappointing at this price, but that ETA 2892 just glides.

Seiko SLA023 Marinemaster 300

My first great watch: probably my favourite bezel action, a staggering Zaratsu case and my favourite handset on any watch; it's thick and top-heavy, but it's not too big for anyone.

Something out of left field: beads of rice, loose clicky bezel that at least lines up, the real sailboat logo, and there's nothing wrong with it.

Bought to complete the Doxa set for GBP 536 on a cheeky offer: the nicest bezel and the most accurate in the collection, but that handset lets it down.

Seiko 4R35 dress watch

A gift from Miss Sari: the dial is stunning and the 4R35 through the case back is beautiful, but I only wear it to funerals and weddings, and the seconds hand has tarnished in the box.
