The line-up

  1. 1

    Longines Conquest Moonphase (ladies, quartz)

    8/10 · For the beeeech · Gethin's partner

A 300m water resistant lady dive watch with a moon phase, high accuracy quartz and a frank date window, from the oldest registered trademark in history; the state of it after less than two years is quite staggering.

  2. 2

    Rado DiaStar Automatic (Powermatic 80)

    7/10 · For the beeeech

An automatic with the fantastic R anchor and 80 hours of power reserve from the Swatch Group, made of some sort of carbon ceramic and unscratchable.

  3. 3

    Seiko SKX007

    9/10 · Beyond thunderdome

On its Crafter Blue rubber, and the 250-pound watch I hold up next to the Marinemaster to show you what finishing is.

  4. 4

    Seiko SLA023 Marinemaster 300

    9/10 · Beyond thunderdome

The Marinemaster recreation, a 3,000 watch: the difference in finishing isn't particularly noticeable to non watch aficionados, but to me it is.

  5. 5

    Casio Duro / Marlin MDV106

    8/10 · For the beeeech

The lauded, very famous Marlin on the wrists of skaters for 25 million years: no lume to speak of, a particularly inaccurate quartz and a second hand that doesn't meet the markers, but 200m water resistant, so freaky, so why is its crown on the right?

  6. 6

Seiko Presage SRPB46 'Manhattan' Cocktail Time

    8/10 · For the beeeech · Gethin's own

A beautiful pressed dial, and the proof: I wear mine on the right wrist and the hand is clear of the onion crown, no digging in.

  7. 7

    Doxa Sub 300T Professional

    8/10 · For the beeeech

Beads of rice, the Doxa logo on the back, the Jenny family logo on a razor-sharp sawtooth crown with a clickety clackety action, and on my right wrist that crown doesn't touch the hand: professional and unbelievable.

  8. 8

Seiko SBDX017 bracelet (fitted to the SLA023)

    No listing yet

Impossible to fit and the stiffest bracelet in the history of bracelets, but a true freak, and the Marinemaster on it is a beautiful time lord.

In his words

"Not particularly noticeable to all non watch aficionados, but to me it is."
