Black Grape: no grape in sight, one disgusting bezel, still stunning
A dual twerp, courtesy of a sick man
Steve has sunk to the depths of buying two of exactly the same watch. You're a sick man, Steve. Both are the SSK001K1, the Black Grape. One has a flat matte dial, the other a glossier, sunburst kind of dial, same reference. Seiko does this sometimes. There's not a fake here. Perhaps they were made in different factories, I have no idea. Natural light on them: yes, you can see it. This one is a matte sort of greyish dial and this one is more glossy.
Where's the grape?
Nobody knows why they've called it that. It doesn't look like a grape or any kind of fruit at all. It looks like a wristwatch with a red GMT hand. But apparently they need to give them all some sort of name. And isn't it stunning, with the silver bottom half of its friction-fit bezel? Applied indices, applied logo. The bezel is very loose, mind. Get rid of that.
Check the alignment. Disgusting.
The matte one is the stiffest and the worst of the lot. Look at the 6. Look at the 9. Absolutely disgusting. It's the only really bad one. The glossy one? Nine o'clock looks great. That's what you're going to get from Seiko. You never know.
Verdict: I hate that bezel, but I love the thing. So freaky. That is tag.
