Legend, beater, Frankenstein: the 6309 that comforts the beef wagon and then gets sent back

A true legend, sort of

Mr Jun's 6309-7040, February 1981. The predecessor to the Turtle. 150 metres. Seiko used to put the lollipop at the correct end of the second hand. But this is a Franken-hoy, bros. New dial, new handset, new bezel insert; only the case and caseback are original. Someone attempted to rebrush the case with 50 grit sandpaper, and the brush work is not for the beach. At a glance it looks perfectly good. And the bezel? Bidirectional, and so hard to turn you'd need about 2,000 Nm of force to engage it.

Comfortability matrix beyond Thunderdome

On Mr Jun's Uncle Seiko recreation strap, very supple and soft, it wears better than the new Turtles. Almost round, tiny lug-to-lug, wide case but it wears very well. Under a 7-inch wrist? You could wear this. For 250 quid as a beater, not too shabby.

Verdict

In the Seiko Sunday video I said lovely watch, really like this one. A few months later, on its H-link in the Mr Jun box video? Pretty crap. Get rid of it. Send it back to the Hattori clowns immediately. Comfort, yes. The rest, you decide. Never give up.
