Boutique champagne two-tone: I didn't think I'd like it, but it's won my heart
Cat hair and brown syrup
Welcome back, bros, we've been blessed with some more twerps. Look at him on a foam cushion, and unfortunately that cushion has been impregnated with cat hair, which has caused me incredible allergies. Thank you, Seiko Steve. I haven't written many notes, I couldn't be bothered, and I've guzzled far too much brown syrup, so we're freewheeling this, as it should be done.
It's the Seiko Prospex SPB240. A boutique exclusive, and a two-tone. What a bastard on the wrist. It's an MM200, the 1968 diver's reinterpretation, 2021 model. Seiko boutique special edition, for the beach. Unreal credentials, bro.
The specs, quickly
42 mm case, 12.5 mm thick, 48.5 lug to lug, 20 mm lugs. It cost 1,130 when new. I didn't think I'd like it, but it's won my heart and I don't know why, bros. 6R35 with hacking and hand winding, minus 5 to plus 25 seconds a day, 70 hours of power reserve, almost three days but not quite, 200 m. Sapphire, coated inside. Screw-down crown at 10 to 4, screw-down caseback with a deep, unreal tsunami wave motif. Lumibrite on all hands and indices, shrouded pip, super hard coated stainless steel.
And then there's the clasp: a stamped, threefold mil swing affair. You know what's coming, bros. Get rid of him immediately.
Warmth and rose gold
It gives off real warmth. A real comforting vibe comes off this twerp. Bronze hues on the gold handset, that rose gold stealing the show. It's a real slick time warrior. A brazen bull. The bezel action isn't the best, I've got to be honest, but it's better than the loose one on the other twerp I had out. And I love that champagne.
I also showed off the SSK046, the Asia Pacific limited edition Shadow Root Beer GMT, also with rose gold. I'll give my opinion on that and several other GMTs in future videos.
Bracelet and finishing
I like it. It's solid: high polish flanks with pin and collars, drilled lugs, end link integration saluted, and a real three-piece with brushed shoulder links, a flat ellipsoid centre link and chamfers with a high-polished accent. Super sweet. Coin edging on the bezel and a beautiful thick unsigned coin-edged crown. The bezel insert is sloping aluminium, I'm not sure what coating, not ceramic, but it doesn't matter to me. And the case: count them, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven finishes on the same case. Mental.
Verdict
It's definitely not in production anymore. It was a special edition, a boutique edition, so it was only sold in Seiko boutiques, not on the grey market. Quite a rare piece. Thank you, Seiko Steve and Mr Jun. A twerp for the ages. A twerp for the masses. Stay freaky and never give up.
