Pizza pan case, seven finishes, a transplanted heart: the black Gen 2 Sumo is mid tier heaven

Seiko paradise, mid tier heaven

Welcome to the Sumo showdown, bros. I tried to film this before and cocked it up because I was too glabbed on tools. Today I'm somewhat less wrecked, but still quite nicely pissed, and first up is the SBDC031, Gen 2, black, courtesy of Seiko Steve. It's a warlord of a twerp. It's Seiko paradise. It's mid tier heaven. These Sumos are underappreciated, but I love them.

Bit boring, but I'll tell you anyway: Steve's original 6R15 was performing so badly his watchmaker couldn't regulate it. So he bought a new 6R35 and had an upper mainspring arbor fitted, replacing the factory bushings, which are known to wear. Running very well now.

Look at that pizza pan

Look at that pizza pan dish case that holds the crust of the bezel inside. There's nothing else like that, is there? There really isn't. Single dome Hardlex, 200 metre ISO certified professional divers watch, signed Seiko S crown, and a female end link. How much do we like a female end link? We all like it.

Banana case, and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven different pieces of finishing on the same case. It's a luxury twerp at a mid-tier price.

Verdict

The only upgrade over the SBDC003 was an X on the dial, which nobody likes, but it's there. Goofy font. The bezel action is great, shrouded and triangular, though you can't action it from the side, top and bottom only. An absolute stunner. Never give up.

In his words
