Seiko QHL073Y: the ultimate statement piece for any Seiko fan, and it's a clock
Not a watch, but I absolutely love it
Just a quick review of something quite impressive. It's a mantel clock, the Seiko QHL073Y, and I absolutely love it. I bought it as a gift for Mr Jun, because he spent so much money on my son's football boots and I didn't buy him anything. I'm wearing the SLA025 tonight, by the way. Behemoth clock, behemoth in the face.
The price and the size
Seiko Clocks UK sell these for £85. You can get them for £79.99. That's a lot of money for a plastic quartz clock, but where else are you going to get it from? If you want one, that's the price, and you don't have to buy it. I think it's awesome. It's 29 cm by 12.5 cm by 6 cm, and it weighs half a kilo. Not small, not massive, but pretty large.
It's like a roided version of the very well-known QHL83Y, the one on the little yellow stand, which is only about this big. This one doesn't come with a stand; you can buy one, but I looked on Seiko Clocks UK and it wasn't available. It's wall mountable and comes with a screw. It takes two AA batteries, which are included, though I put my own in so I didn't ruin the surprise for Mr Jun. It's ticking.
Countdown to nothing
It does have a countdown function where you can count down to a date, but it's completely pointless, really. No alarm, but why would you need an alarm on a wall clock? No light either. I've heard from commenters there's some drift in the quartz movement, but I can't imagine it's any worse than my Seiko Marathon alarm, which keeps time to within three or four seconds a month. I just reset it every couple of months. Pretty standard for a quartz clock.
Verdict
It's inspired by the iconic Seiko timing displays we see at the Olympics and other sporting events. Super eye-catching. Everyone's going to love this when they see it. It's the ultimate statement piece for any Seiko fan. Imagine that on the wall in your bedroom or on the mantle. A beast. I'll put the watch next to it so you can see the size.
