Sixty quid for a bit of plastic, and worth every penny: Crafter Blue on the Sumo and the Turtle
Two straps, two Seikos
Two Crafter Blue reviews tonight: the CB08 on the Turtle and the CB02 on the Sumo. Look at the state of these. What do you think? Absolutely wonderful. They come in a little plastic bag with the Crafter Blue insignia blazing on the front, spring bars included. All very nice, but not particularly special. The strap is the special bit.
CB08: buy it with your Turtle
If any of you have bought the Turtle, I'd strongly recommend you buy this strap. It comes in loads of colours to go with the Turtle's many dials. The tang is supreme. The strap is supple, soft, with so many micro adjustments, and the waffle effect underneath is fantastic. Lovely bolsters. Thick, very well done, and it smells lovely. I know you can't smell it. Trust me.
60 pounds for a piece of plastic. But you can't be a cheapskate. You won't find anything on eBay for 3.99 that's going to replicate the quality of this. My only complaint: the keeper's too big, so it slides around on the wrist. A bit of a bastard. Other than that, no complaints.
CB02: made for the Sumo
On to the star of the show, the Blumo, probably my favourite Seiko I can afford, the SBDC033 J1, on the CB02. Slightly different from the 08, with these grooves, and the ends are perfectly fitted to the Sumo. It's just so great.
It does have a drawback. It's a little short. On my wrist there's not much left past the keeper, and if you've got an eight-inch wrist or above, as many gentlemen do, you'd end up with almost nothing beyond it. The Turtle strap is much longer and more accommodating. Bear that in mind, big-wristed gentlemen.
Not every Crafter Blue
For balance: I had a CB05 on my SKX, in green, and it was uncomfortable and pinched the wrist. The rubber on my later CB03 is a lot softer. These two are supple and soft.
Verdict
Absolutely great straps. Buy the 08 with your Turtle, buy the 02 for your Sumo, and if you've got a massive wrist, mind the length on the 02. Sumo is king, Turtle is the prince. Stay freaky. Maximum respect, for the beach.
