SLA077 and SLA079: a Marine Master that wears like an SKX, with a clasp from a 6R

A real bonanza, courtesy of the wonderful Seiko Steve: not one but two of the new non-limited Marine Master 300s, the SLA077 in matte white and the SLA079 in matte black, with the old boys on the table for comparison.

Smaller, slimmer, double-domed sapphire, textured dials, a case you'd know with a bag on your head. But no monocoque, and is it even a Marine Master any more? That's what I'm trying to decide.

The verdict

High quality without a shadow of a doubt: the zaratsu, the brushing, the dial, the bezel action, the movement. But something about them feels a little bit off to me, the bigger bezel teeth give me a weird feeling and that clasp has to go. Very nice, just not for me.

Beautiful pebbly textured white dial, case finished maybe even better than the old one, a bracelet better than the old one, and then a stamped 6R clasp with no on-the-fly adjustment on a £2,000-plus watch.
